Twisted Dragon- Leave Your Mind Ep Review
Hey Mayhem, Raven here with another Mayhem Reviews. Fresh out on all streaming platforms our friends in Twisted Dragon have released a how new Ep, "Leave Your Mind". With the resurgence of popularized musical elements in recent years it begs the question, what other styles of music have been making a comeback? These heavy groove rockers are here to answer with a resounding ROCK N ROLL.
On a mission to bring back the rawest rock possible, this new ep delivers a whole different side of Twisted Dragon that was only briefly teased for us through their double single "Cycle/Tides". Going from the much more laid back and high energy groove of their debut album "Mirage" to the heavier more aggressive groove of "Leave your Mind" the progression and comfortability between members William Keen and Garrett Kleitz is highly noticeable. Speaking with William Keen, lead singer and guitarist of Twisted Dragon, before the release he had this to say about their latest works. "We have never poured more of ourselves in our music and we are so fucking proud of these songs we got." On that note let's jump into "Leave Your Mind"
Kicking off this three piece meal of mayhem and rock madness is "Never Coming Back". This heavy hitting jam serves a delicious first course guaranteed to get you off your ass and moving. The blended balance of William's unique vocals and his ever present grooving guitar vibes together with Garrett's over the top drumming serves to perfectly demonstrate the level of comfortability these two have playing together. With the addition of an epic solo courtesy of William, "Never Coming Back" is a groove rock powerhouse worthy of any old school rocker's respect.
Swinging into the second course with a little more laid back of a rock tune "Mona" is a testament to the versatility of Twisted Dragon. Stepping forward more into the limelight the tripping pounding drums provided by Garrett is much more prevalent and pronounced. Combine that with an almost effortless rolling groove and high energy solo from William, this spicy little number will have you rocking in no time.
Rounding out this trio with an excellent helping of nostalgia comes "Burning Down". Slowing things down and bringing back a lot of the energy of "Mirage" this track captures the fine line between the new and the old. But watch yourselves this dragon has two heads, and much like the title, turns to a hot shredding frenzy. A true ode to what made Rock N Roll so incredibly great, is "Burning Down" an excellent ending note for this Ep? Or is it a promising glimpse at what's next?
You can catch Twisted Dragon live at Buck U Distillery in Ottawa, Ks with All From Nothing on September 24. Remember to follow Twisted Dragon for more sick jams and as always Support Your Local Music Scene.
