Hi there Mayhem Music fans! Lady Siren Song here with my review of album number two of Sixx A.M. – Prayers for the Blessed. My boy Raven did the review for their first volume, Prayers for the Damned, now it’s my turn to review the second half of the release. As a bonus, there will also be a commentary on their performance I attended at the Worcester DCU Center on November 25, 2016.

I’m going to be honest and say I prefer the second album over the first. But again, this is just my opinion and you don’t have to agree with it. I just found more songs to love on this album. This volume seems to be about conflict, battle, strength, solidarity and victory. The music is solid with all musicians performing beautifully. James Michael provided powerful and melodic vocals throughout. Amber Vanbuskirk and Melissa Harding providing excellent background vocals that fit perfectly with the music and with James Michaels’ primary vocals. Nikki Sixx—well people…the guy is a legend! Epic bass playing by Nikki, very strong without the buzz. DJ Ashba—dude can make the guitar make sounds I have NEVER heard! And Dustin Steinke on drums…very powerful fast drums. Real Earth shaking! Speaking of Earth Shaking, here are Mayhem’s 5 Ground Shakers:

Mayhem’s Ground Shakers

Barbarians (Prayers for the Blessed) – This is the perfect arena stomping song! Really feels like this song is like flipping the bird to the “entitled” snobs in society that think they are better than everyone else, but also calling for solidarity and strength. Powerful guitar riffs and drum work. Guitar solo is incredible! You definitely want this one on your work out playlist people.

We Will Not Go Quietly – The title says it all. Not giving up without a fight. We’re not just going to hang our heads and slink out the door. We’re going to make an impact! This song sure as hell does!

Wolf at Your Door – I LOVE THE BASS IN THIS SONG!! It is very groovy through the verses, and strong throughout the remainder of the song. Chorus has a melodic tone to it, while the verses have me thinking of that wolf creeping up to my door.

The Devil’s Coming – Rapid fire double bass drums powerful guitar riffs to start. Instruments slow down during the verses, and that change in tempo really suits the song and makes its really unique. The choruses are faster paced and pick up tempo.

That’s Gonna Leave a Scar – As with the previous song, this picks up very fast paced and does change tempo throughout. There’s a great bass hook in the chorus that I absolutely love. The guitar solo is amazing. I cannot say enough about James Michael’s singing. He’s great behind the mic. Very versatile singer and you hear that throughout the whole album (and previous works).

Ok, now for the fun part! Just kidding, writing the review was fun too. I had the opportunity to see Sixx A.M. play in Worcester, MA on November 25, 2016. I will say I have been a fan of Nikki Sixx since his days in Mötley Crüe. So, I’m standing in the audience like, “It’s Nikki Sixx! It’s Nikki SIxx!!!” Ok had to fight of my inner fan-girl self for a minute or two. But the band had incredible live sound. I think at one point James mentioned they had some audio issues, but I really didn’t notice a problem. Speaking of James Michael…his energy onstage is amazing! He interacts very well with the crowd gets everyone banging their heads and raising their fists in the air. At one point they brought out kabuki masks and performed with them on. Nice touch! If you have the opportunity to see them perform live, DEFINITELY go see them!
